This Symptom Marks Late-Stage Trump Derangement Syndrome

Trump-deranged celebrities have to up their game in the president's second term to get our attention. And, bless their hearts, some are rising to the occasion.

Sure, Robert De Niro is damaging his legacy in real time with his constant anti-Trump tirades. His recent No Kings rally comments made even longtime fans wince.

It's exhausting and predictable, but he hasn't followed his mania down the craziest path possible.

Nor has Jimmy Kimmel, Stephen Colbert, or the rest of the late-night propagandists. Not even Bruce Springsteen, currently on an anti-Trump national tour, wallowed in this very specific mud.

It's a very low bar, but these celebrities have cleared it.

Said bar? Trump staged the 2024 Butler, Pa. rally where a would-be assassin shot his ear but otherwise didn't hurt the past and future president. It's akin to being a Flat Earther, a position that requires so much mental gymnastics you could pull a hamstring just considering it.

What about the late Corey Comperatore, who died in the shooting melee? Or the two rally participants who were shot but survived? What about Thomas Matthew Crooks, the 20-year-old who fired the shots and was quickly taken out by Secret Service agents?

What celebrities have taken the TDS leap of all leaps? Think Rosie O'Donnell, John Leguizamo, Amanda Seales and, potentially, comedian Tim Dillon.

The latter may have been riffing on TDS-sufferers, so we'll offer him the benefit of the doubt.

Still, it's an amazing claim to share in public, especially for stars who should be careful about their brand and image. That wacky quartet may have been, well, trumped by a fellow star.

Veteran actress Mia Farrow may be the first celebrity to suggest, without a scintilla of evidence, that the shooter arrested at the White House Correspondents' Dinner attempting to kill President Trump and/or his inner circle was fake, too.

The 81-year-old "Rosemary's Baby" star opined on Bluesky that the shocking turn of events could be part of a larger, Trumpian scheme.

“He is forcing us to wonder ‘he has lost a war he is unable to end & is now so desperate to raise his approval ratings, would he …..’ ?”

Yikes. And, naturally, a few Bluesky types gently steered her back to sanity.

Farrow appears mostly retired at this stage in her career. She hasn't worked regularly in more than a decade, although her film canon deserves our respect. Her films with former flame Woody Allen alone are remarkable in their depth and richness.

Her turn in 1984's "Broadway Danny Rose," playing a mouthy broad dating a sad sack of a soul, turned her image on its head in the best of ways.

Her political mien? Not so much.

Last year, she used the president's plan to build a new, secure ballroom in the White House to compare him to Adolf Hitler. No points for originality, alas.

That's garden-variety TDS at this stage. Farrow is blazing a new trail that, sadly, more celebrities will likely follow. For every Michael Rapaport, a celebrity who escaped from his TDS paranoia, there are too many others who only double down on the psychosis.
