A few years back I was having a friendly argument with a dear friend about the manipulation of information--hoaxes, really--that helped rig the 2020 election. Whether the election was stolen or not--we may never know the full truth--there is no question that the media and Big Tech rigged the election by illegally changing the voting rules and by manipulating the flow of information through hoaxes and censorship.
I thought the most indisputable case, because everybody knew the basic facts, was the censorship of the Hunter Biden laptop scandal and the outright accusation that it was Russian disinformation.
Pish, posh! Nobody should have cared about the laptop anyway! The election was about Joe Biden, not his son! So what if the media and the entire intelligence community suppressed and discounted the information, anyway?! The voters shouldn't care about that!
Yeah, well, Hunter Biden became Deputy President, lived in the White House, and sat in on all the big meetings in Biden's term. He literally helped lead the pardon committee that gave him and his family, and all Trump's biggest criminal enemies pardons. It mattered.
Among the things long covered up is Joe Biden's own corruption by proxy, using his brother and son to sell out the United States. Tidbits came out now and again, but the scale and scope of the corruption was never really explored. As the Bidens vacuumed up millions from foreign governments and corporations, including China, Russia, Ukraine, and many others, we were assured that any minor corruption was unrelated to Joe himself.
Well, now it can be told. At least some fraction of it.

The New York Times has a long story about how Hunter was using his father's power to make deals entirely contrary to the interests of the United States, and about how Joe Biden used his power as Vice President to squash an investigation of it and bury the evidence. Anybody who has paid the most modest attention to Biden's career knows that he is a disgusting grifter of the sort you find in any third world country, but to listen to the media during a campaign season he was George Washington, FDR, and LBJ rolled into one.
While his father, Joseph R. Biden Jr., was vice president, Hunter Biden began developing relationships that led to an audacious proposal to sell the land around the United States Embassy building in Romania to a group that included a Chinese company.
Hunter Biden was involved in the proposed deal from multiple perspectives, creating what he privately acknowledged to an associate was an ethical quagmire, according to documents and four people with knowledge of the matter who were not authorized to speak about it.
Even after years of investigations, and a suggestion by federal prosecutors that Mr. Biden’s work in Romania left him vulnerable to a foreign lobbying charge, the full story of his efforts there has not been told before. Previously unreported details exemplify how Mr. Biden’s pursuit of lucrative foreign deals fit into the broader foreign influence industry and complicated U.S. diplomacy.
The deal he was pursuing left open the possibility that the Chinese could have ended up with an ownership stake in a critical asset — the land around the embassy in Bucharest, and possibly the land on which the embassy sat. The possibility concerned one of his former partners who sought to avoid the outcome at the time, while another partner later rejected the idea that it was ever on the table.
The chapter fits into a well-worn playbook used by deep-pocketed foreign interests to seek favor in Washington by courting politically connected Americans, including presidential family members like the adult sons of President Trump or the son and brother of former President Jimmy Carter.
Yeah, well, no. Billy Carter sold beer and tossed around a modest fame for penny ante stuff, and the Trump kids may be opportunistic, but hardly corrupt.
Hunter Biden wanted to deal with the Chinese, giving them ownership of the land beneath a US embassy. Not the same. Burisma was not the same. All those deals in China? Not the same.
Hunter Biden’s foreign business dealings mostly came as he spiraled from addiction and self-destructive behavior that exacerbated family and financial problems, amid his grief over the illness and death of his older brother, Beau.
This account of the Romania proposal is derived from hundreds of pages of business documents, letters, emails and text messages obtained via public records requests, provided to congressional and executive branch investigators or retrieved from a cache of files linked to Mr. Biden’s abandoned laptop, as well as interviews and testimony transcripts.
The land deal collapsed in 2017 before the Chinese invested any money in it amid a contentious struggle for control among Mr. Biden’s partners, during which he protested in a WhatsApp message: “I’m the only one putting an entire family legacy on the line.”
Mr. Biden’s efforts came partly as his father was pressing the Romanians to rid their country of nepotism and corruption.
There is no evidence that Mr. Biden’s father was involved in the business dealings, though he was introduced by his son to executives of the Chinese company, CEFC China Energy, in an apparent effort to impress them.
A spokeswoman for the former president declined to comment. Hunter Biden, James Biden, Mr. Popoviciu and their lawyers did not respond to requests for comment. A lawyer for the younger Mr. Biden previously told The Times that his client never discussed anything related to Romania with his father.
The Times is still providing a modest amount of cover for Sleepy Joe, and throwing in the whole "grief and addiction" line, but at least the story is trickling out. If anybody believes that Joe, whose entire family lived off his power and made bank, knew nothing, I would like to discuss part ownership of the Brooklyn Bridge with you. It is a great opporunity!
Joe Biden was key to pressing for the Romania/China deal Hunter Biden was pushing through. Biden the elder was pressuring Romania to clean up corruption, while Hunter Biden was representing the target of the corruption investigation. The more pressure Biden, as VP, put on Romania, the more important Hunter's protection for his client and business partner became. It was key to making Hunter the most important person for success.
A prospectus emailed to Hunter and James Biden and others by James Gilliar, a British businessman with whom they had teamed up, elaborated on how the deal could further sweeten the pot for the Romanians to “facilitate this resolution.” It envisioned allowing the Romanian government to retain a 10 percent stake in the project that would provide “steady annual income for long term for the state budget.”
Put another way: The Romanian government could reap financial benefit if the case was dropped and the deal went through.
The deal was among several projects in different parts of the world for which the joint venture discussed seeking CEFC investment. The prospectus casts Hunter Biden as “key in relationship set up” for proposed investments that would further CEFC’s efforts. At the time, the company’s expansion was part of the Chinese government’s Belt and Road economic influence initiative.
Documents show that Mr. Biden was involved in discussions about the structure of the joint venture, as well as the proposed purchase of the Bucharest land and the legal defense of Mr. Popoviciu. In messages, Mr. Biden, who called his client “Gabs,” described the developer as “a very good man that’s being very badly treated by a suspect Romanian justice system.”
It's a great grift, if you can make it work.
The same sort of thing happened in Ukraine, as you will recall, with Joe pushing for a corruption investigation, and Hunter working for Burisma. The Ukrainians were onto the scheme, but helpless to do much. When the American intelligence community picked up on it Joe Biden suppressed the report.

All this is coming out at least partly because, now that Biden is out for good, it can be, and partly because the Democratic Party is in the midst of a civil war. Somebody has to pick up the pieces, and discrediting the Biden clan is advantageous for some of the people who want to slide into the power spots that the Obama and Biden people now occupy.
By now, no conservative should be shocked at any revelations about the Bidens, except insofar as they indicate who is jockeying for power and which reporters are aligning with which factions.
But one would hope that at least some liberals will acknowledge that the "nobody should have cared about the Hunter Biden laptop so it was OK to censor it and create a hoax about Russia" story was entirely wrong. Hunter Biden was one of the key powers in the Biden administration, and Joe Biden's bagman. Joe Biden himself sold out the United States early and often for personal benefit, and distorted American foreign policy to make a few million bucks.
And all the evidence was there for years; it was covered up for political reasons.
Democrats get all hot and bothered by Trump memecoins or sweatshirts, but don't seem to care that Hunter Biden was literally selling the land out from under a US embassy and manipulating foreign policy to benefit the Chinese Communists. Just as they don't seem to care that our foreign aid budget of tens of billions of dollars has been a piggy bank for leftist NGOs that openly admit they want to destroy the United States, who funded the human trafficking and border crises, spawned color revolutions around the world creating chaos, and helped create COVID.
I mean, WTF, man? Do you really hate Republicans so much that world chaos and wars are preferable? Is your loyalty to the Democratic Party so great that electing one of the most corrupt politicians in American history was your best choice, and you were willing to throw away the First Amendment to do it?
