If there ever was an example of somebody who is being "hoisted on their own petard*," it is Letitia James, the Attorney General of New York.
James, who invented the novel theory that Donald Trump committed fraud in obtaining a loan backed by his real estate holdings, actually DID commit mortgage fraud by claiming that a second home she bought would be her primary residence. She was able to get a preferential mortgage rate based on this fraud.
James herself spent an enormous amount of time and effort explaining why Trump's alleged misvaluation of his collateral was an egregious violation of the law, but now, suddenly, the rules have changed.
Holding Letitia James Accountable

Of course, leftists, Democrats, and the media are up in arms, claiming this indictment is revenge.
Well, yes, if revenge takes the form of justice. Only narcissists would contend that.

They have changed so much that the very people in the Pravda Media who spent an enormous amount of time, energy, and effort to explain to the American people why Trump's bankers were satisfied with Trump's loan and wanted to keep doing business with him was actually an egregious crime.
Now they have taken a different tack: "everybody does it."
CNN: “Everyone in America commits mortgage fraud!”

Actually, no. Most of us have one mortgage, one primary residence, and don't commit mortgage fraud. But then again, most of us have not been heroes to the left because of our undying hatred of Trump and willingness to distort the legal system to prevent him from becoming president.
Mortgage fraud is either really serious or not a big deal, it all depends on if it's Trump people being charged or Letitia James.

It really is amazing how much energy they are putting into this effort to clear James, and for that matter how willing they are to lie about James' motivation for pursuing Trump like a modern-day Inspector Javert.
In 2023 CNN fake journalist Laura Coates passionately explained why Trump's alleged mortgage fraud was not a victimless crime.

Now Coates is saying that Letitia James' little mistake didn't hurt anybody.

James ran for office on a platform of using the justice system to destroy Trump. That was, quite literally, her pitch to the voters. It is not an exaggeration by MAGA folks to make this claim. She was quite open about it.
December, 2020. Letitia James goes on The View and brags that as soon as Trump is out of office, she is going to get him.

James should be thrown in prison for making such a mockery of the justice system.pic.twitter.com/xHeQ8S0gkn
Every American should watch this video of Letitia James, in her own words.

This is third-world stuff.
Our country is done if these are the kinds of people in charge of making prosecutorial decisions.pic.twitter.com/bfPSlsRGVg
"Everybody does it" is the only tack they can take, because the fact, as we know them, are very clear. Tish James certainly did, and if there is a fair trial, she will be convicted.
It's incredible to see Democrats whining about "selective prosecution" in the case of Letitia James.

Her entire career is built on the selective prosecution of one man! Give me a break. pic.twitter.com/RmqySfYaxI
In a sense, it is true that all prosecutions are selective. In fact, we hear all the time about prosecutorial discretion, and liberal prosecutors let leftist protesters off the hook every day. Most crimes are committed by a small group of people who get caught and released many, many times. The man who murdered that poor girl in Charlotte had been arrested 14 times, I believe, and was walking the streets due to selective prosecutions.
But James is being prosecuted for a crime that she railed against for years, and for which she pursued Donald Trump for years. She, in his case, invented it. The "crimes" that Alvin Bragg convicted Trump of were invented, and we hear all the time about how Trump is a convicted felon.
It is pure justice that James should be hoisted on her own petard. These are the rules she created, and unlike her pursuit of Trump, she is obviously guilty.
I have my doubts that she will be convicted, because...Democrat. But the prosecution itself is perfectly fair and well deserved.
*For those of you who don't know, a petard was an early explosive device used in Medieval warfare. To be hoisted on one's own petard was to be blown up by your own explosive.
