The "Rise of the Far Right" is an article of faith that is reinforced thousands of times a day, and it has been one of the key themes in The Narrative™ for decades. Loving articles and TV features have been pushed into the mainstream, with focus on stories on "bro" influencers, militias, marches of the Patriot Front, and steady talk of insurrections as actual left-wing insurgents take over and burn down cities.
We have witnessed leftist brownshirts rampage in cities and on college campuses, but The Narrative tells us that it is the right that has radicalized.
But it isn't just intuition that tells moderates and especially conservatives that this Narrative is an inversion of reality. Actual research demonstrates that it is true that the ideological movement is almost entirely on the left. While it is true that conservatives are becoming more vocal in their opposition to the increasingly communist ideology of the left, it is entirely false that their vocal objections have anything to do with a rightward shift in opinion.

One of our favorite memes was created by Colin Wright, and it describes the situation well.

The situation has become so extreme of late, with the growth of progressive assassination culture, that a wag updated the meme to make it more accurate for the current situation:

This is how old liberals like Benny Johnson, Elon Musk, Jillian Michaels, and Gays Against Groomers have all found themselves on the right, and quite welcome there. Conservatives have a habit of latching onto and embracing former liberals and holding onto them almost as if they are life rafts of sanity. Conservatives who oppose gay marriage are in love with the new gay right, most of whom haven't moved ideologically, partly because we never hated them in the first place (just disagreed), and partly because we will take any ideological ally we can in the fight for sanity.
Top Democrats' Past Statements on Border Security and ICE Enforcement: They Sound Like Trump

Why? Because they wanted to protect union jobs from cheap illegal labor (which, incidentally, protected illegals from exploitation).
What changed? Them. You should ask why. pic.twitter.com/fD9pNTYX80
Few issues show how dramatically leftward the Democrats have moved more than the current Thing™, which is opposition to ICE. Democrats, not so long ago, were talking almost like Donald Trump on the issue, and if any conservative says today what liberals did as late as 2016, they would be chased out of any venue to the left of a VFW.
1996. Chuck Schumer is fuming that illegals are flooding into America to scam taxpayer-funded benefits:

“The number one answer we give our constituents is when they come here, they can get jobs, get benefits… pic.twitter.com/yGUDjMDgel
Bernie Sanders, Chuck Schumer, Bill and Hillary Clinton, and even the Democratic platform were all quite harsh on illegal immigrants, and were all "law and order," "immigrants are stealing jobs," and "deport them all" until Barack Obama moved the party leftward. And even Obama deported millions more illegals than Trump has.

Donald Trump’s ICE chief was called a Nazi.
It’s the same person: Tom Homan.
In 2012, Obama deported 409,000 people.
In 2025, Trump deported 290,000 people.
The difference is mainstream media brainwashing. pic.twitter.com/kFgGmZKFa5

Democrats haven't just moved left on immigration; many are now arguing that the very idea of borders is illegitimate, and even that America itself should be dissolved because it is a colonialist entity built on stolen land.
The new Democrat Party platform:

Conservatives have moved very little ideologically on this issue. To the extent that there is a change, and there has been, it is not a shift in ideology but rather a growing sense that what has been a problem is now a crisis. Their view on what the policy should be remains the same; we are now just demanding that the laws that have been put on the books, passed, by the way, in a bipartisan fashion, actually be enforced.
But wait… it gets worse…

It is true that Americans see a bit more content from the so-called "Far Right," but the actual quantity of that content hasn't increased that much; the media has put an increasing focus on it as a deterrent to moderates expressing conservative views.
"Do you want to be aligned with Nazis?!" It is about trying to keep centrists sympathetic to the left. We know about Nick Fuentes not because he is wildly popular on the right—most conservatives condemn him loudly—but because Pravda wants to smear us as Nazis.
There is a rich cache of research on the ideological preferences of Americans, and none of it shows that conservatives have moved much ideologically since Reagan, although there has been some shift in which issues get priority. Immigration is high on the list of priorities for conservatives now because we perceive it as a crisis—an opinion shared by the majority of Americans, even after all this propaganda.

There is only one group that now supports defunding ICE, suspending immigration enforcement, and having open borders, and that is Democrats. And it wasn't so long ago that Democrats agreed with Republicans and centrists on the issue.
The same holds true on voter ID, paper ballots, not using voting machines, and the like. As Democrats are now trying to ban all hand counts of ballots (thank you, Governor Spanberger!), the rest of the country is on the other side.
Throw in alphabet issues, abortion until birth, and just about any other social issue, and you can see how far left the Democrats have moved. On economics, the party is now practically communist, with New York City and Seattle having elected bona fide communists. In Portland, Antifa has carte blanche to assault people, and in Minneapolis, ICE Watch owns the streets.
Assassins now have Democrat fan clubs, and leftists are taking to TikTok with explainers on how to poison federal law enforcement. Teachers' Unions are promoting actual revolution, and recruiting students to protest. Parents are taking toddlers to riots now.
Yet the media calls US far right for opposing all this.
