Republicans Love America; Democrats Only Love Power

I have to admit that I was not glued to the TV during the Winter Olympics, but my disinterest had nothing to do with patriotism or a lack thereof. 

I usually wind up watching them because my wife likes skating competitions, but this year, for some reason, she was uninterested, so the TV stayed off. 

But that doesn't mean I haven't seen some of the controversies. There's the story of the American traitor who went to compete for China, of course, whom I understand the media was in love with. And apparently, the media has been trying to get American athletes to trash President Trump, to very mixed success.

Most of what I have seen, aside from cheering to America's win over Canada in hockey, has been about the politics of the Olympics, and how ashamed the American left is of our country.

Pravda and the Democrats bitching about how America is a fascist state under Donald Trump is almost background noise by now, but the controversy of the Huffington Post's piece about how ashamed we all should be rooting for America was a good reminder that Democratic Patriotism is 100% conditional on them controlling everything. 

They don't love America; they love ruling America. 

I don't conclude that because I believe I can read the minds of Democrats; it is what Democrats actually tell pollsters. They love America when Democrats are in power, and dislike the country when Republicans are in charge. 

The cognitive dissonance of rooting for U.S. sports while hating the U.S. government is so common that “it continues to be one of the main topics I hold space for in therapy,” said Los Angeles-based licensed clinical social worker Aimee Monterrosa. “As we continue to witness national and global atrocities in real time...it can trigger feelings of guilt, despair, shame, anger.”

Although these feelings are common, you shouldn’t ignore them. “Cognitive dissonance isn’t just ‘having mixed feelings,’” said Tanisha Ranger, a Nevada-based clinical psychologist. “It’s a psychological state that happens when someone holds two conflicting beliefs or values at the same time, or they are engaging in behaviors that contradict their values.” 

Democrats need therapy—or perhaps the ability to riot all the time—in order to cope with living with Republicans in charge. 

Republicans love America no matter who is in the White House. We love the country itself, not the ability to push people around.

Gallup and Pew actually ask people about their attitudes toward America, and Democrats' answers depend entirely upon who sits in the White House. 

Not so for Republicans, because we don't think of America as the political class; we love the American people and the American culture, both of which are held in contempt by the average Democrat. 

Democrats don't even understand how Republicans view these issues. Unless we are directly fighting over a political issue, we aren't obsessed with the opinions of the people we are with. We can root for the same team as a Democrat and not feel icky. 

Really. It never occurs to us to even wonder about it.

They want control over the levers of power, the taxing and spending authority, and the ability to help their friends and harm their enemies. Their loyalty is to themselves and their buddies, not to the country, which is why they quiver in shame, worried that their buddies in the transnational elite won't like them unless they denounce the country when out of power.

Liberals who are ashamed of America while Americans compete at the Olympics are showing their true colors, and they are red and yellow, not Red, White, and Blue. Real Americans are competing overseas, and competing in all our names, and the best that the cultural elite can do is apologize for being part of a country so icky that their fellow citizens don't want child molesters out on the streets. 

For me, learning that Alysa Liu might have woke views made me love her even more. You know why? Because she checked them at the door to the Olympics—so that her entire country could root for her.

When the Left came out mocking conservatives for praising Liu, they were telling on themselves. The Left cannot fathom a higher value than a divisive political act that separates the loathsome uninitiated from the anointed, self-righteous elite. 

America. Love it or leave it.
