The practice of surrogates selling their wombs to carry others' children is relatively new—the first child to be born with a "gestational mother" unrelated by genes to the infant occurred in 1986.
At first, the practice was used by people for whom the risk of carrying a baby to term was considered too high, but now the practice is often used by gay couples who want to have a child; for obvious reasons, the pesky biological reality of men not having wombs, unless some gender theorist claims otherwise and overrides biological facts, prevents them from doing so.
The whole practice is creepy, but as with assisted suicide, the gateway drug of compassion has led to a place where human beings are treated as things, not people with souls.
In the eyes of the culture of death, we are each a commodity.
Two gay guys wanted a vanity kid and demanded a perfectly healthy baby be killed because of cleft lip.

Just end society now. https://t.co/fdqvX3aNcM
It's a grotesque development, but an inevitable consequence of the modern desire to substitute our will for God's. It is how we have arrived at the point where an entire political party in the United States demands that abortions be available until a child is fully out of the womb, lest the comfort of the mother be disturbed by the wailing of a child.
Or, in this case, two gay men who want to have a child contract with a generous woman—in Canada, surrogates are not supposed to be paid—to carry a child for them and demand that the child be aborted at 5 1/2 months due to a modest birth defect. She refused, as well she should have.
And now they are suing her for emotional distress. She carried the child, and they want to bankrupt her because she refused to abort it.

Brittneyrose was to receive at least $25- 30k for carrying one baby and $5,000 extra for carrying two or more in her contract with the parents.
The biological parents claimed the contract included a provision which allowed them to tell Brittneyrose to abort, and they withheld payments unless she ended their daughter’s life.
The parents had been excited about the triplets in the beginning, then around 12 weeks they changed their minds.
Brittneyrose said she offered to adopt the baby girl, but the parents refused.
Price tags. Contracts. Payments.
Surrogacy reduces human beings to products and commodities, to be discarded at the convenience of the buyer.
This sort of thing is now becoming common enough. Couples that split up demand that their genetic child be murdered because now it would be an inconvenience. Couples demanding that fetuses be culled due to their being of the wrong sex (maybe they should just assign a different one at birth!).
It's sick. People who claim to value having a child so much that they go to extraordinary lengths, but it turns out that they are choosing a pet, or perhaps a car, and want it to be perfect.
They don't want a human being to be cherished. They want an accessory, no more and no less precious than a designer dress or a nice car.
The thing is, without a reference to God and souls, on what moral ground do you stand? We have already defined away the inherent dignity of human beings. We kill them when they get expensive or difficult to care for, and abort them when they don't fit our lifestyles. We couch these practices in dressed-up moralistic language, but it amounts to that.
There is something about this that still offends most people's moral sense, but we no longer have the language to express it, so society keeps going down this slippery slope. Abortion goes from "safe, legal, and rare" to "any time, any place, for any reason."
Transhumanism is intimately connected with this moral degradation. Ripping away the foundation upon which our moral sense is built—a sense of a natural order based on transcendent values—everything boils down to preferences and convenience.
I know many people who remain convinced that abortion should be available at all times, but who also believe that there is no person who would abort a baby without deep moral reflection and only in extreme circumstances. It's why the abortion argument is usually couched in terms of the "life of the mother" or rape—which comprise less than 1% of abortions.
People have a sense that there is something deeply troubling about making abortions common, but because they can find no moral ground on which to stand, they find comfort in illusions.
Few people hearing about these cases wouldn't recoil, but few humanists can explain what's wrong with it. Because they admit no transcendent values, they concede the moral ground to ghouls.
