Time to Blast Strasbourg?

No, I am not quite ready to go to war with Europe, though declaring war on France might be a great way to get cheap wine, nice vacation spots, and a pleasant visit to a declining civilization. We'd have to quell the riots first.

After all, they would surrender before the first shots were fired, so what is the downside?

We could even turn France into a new Australia, where we deport our criminals and illegal aliens. And as long as they aren't white, the current French government would welcome the decolonization, I suppose.

The reason I am musing about turning Strasbourg into a glass plane is the European Parliament's decision to allow an MP to sponsor an offensive art exhibit aimed at insulting America in general and Donald Trump in particular. Not in any subtle, ironically French way, or with the wit of Winston Churchill to cut us down to size, but in the crudest way possible.

America, you see, is a plague upon the world, and Donald Trump is oppressing Mankind by allowing the emission of too much carbon dioxide (and methane, I would assume).

As European countries put people in jail and fine social media companies for allowing citizens to call politicians nasty names, including, ironically, "fat," the European Parliament has erected a statue of Donald Trump naked, riding on the back of an oppressed man.

No doubt this makes them feel empowered, as they watch their own countries decline. At least they are better than Donald Trump, the Orange Plague upon humanity.

At a busy thoroughfare inside the European Parliament, passing politicians are now confronted with a grotesque and gilded vision of American power: an 8.5-foot-tall statue of President Donald Trump, naked but for a thin layer of 23-karat gold leaf.

“Trump likes gold,” said Danish artist Jens Galschiøt, the statue’s creator, over the phone after it was unveiled Tuesday. “In a way, I think he would like this sculpture.”

Titled “The Orange Plague,” the artwork has been installed in Strasbourg, France, the official seat of the European Parliament. The copper sculpture, also dubbed the “King of Injustice,” imagines the US president on the shoulders of a frail smaller figure. His thighs and sagging belly wrap tightly around the man’s head; his hands clutch at a long golf club and the scales of justice.

“I am sitting on the back of a man,” reads the text on the statue’s plinth. “He is sinking under my burden. I will do anything to help him. Except step down from his back.”

There are outrages that are unavoidable, such as the City Council having to listen to an "invocation" by a Satanist because their rules state that members of any religion may make invocations at the beginning of a council session, and then there are outrages that are clear and deliberate provocations.

This is the latter.

This is not necessarily a rebuke from the European Union, but rather from Danish politician Per Clausen, who sponsored the exhibit. Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) are entitled to host displays on parliament grounds, though all exhibitions must be approved by officials. Parliamentary rules prohibit events or exhibitions deemed “offensive or of an inflammatory nature or contradictory to the values on which the Union is founded,” or those that “undermine the dignity of Parliament.”

Permission is not tantamount to explicit endorsement of their contents. Nonetheless Galschiøt, who had feared the application would be rejected, considers the green-light to be a form of tacit approval from Europe’s parliamentarians. “I think a lot of American people say, ‘OK, this is our president, but he’s also ridiculous in a way.’ And I think most Europeans see him like that, too,” he said.

Hiding behind the claim that the European Parliament isn't explicitly endorsing the message is ridiculous, since it approved it despite having ample power and reason to nix the exhibit. They declared it not offensive or inflammatory, and that it doesn't undermine Parliament's dignity.

Well, I suppose a Hungarian or Polish MP could propose a similar statue of Ursula von der Leyen or Angela Merkel, and we can see what they have to say.

No need. We know what they would say.

One of the main claims to superiority the transnationalists make is that they are more sophisticated and diplomatic than the American bulls in the China shop, and on the surface they often have a point. They wear more sophisticated clothes and read Sartre while they contemplate committing atrocities. They plot their perfidy over long lunches and meet in Davos to make long-term plans to ruin the world.

The most recent temporary display is expected to remain on show until Thursday. It is accompanied by over 1,000 3D-printed miniatures of the sculpture, which are being made available to passersby as “protest tokens.”

Clausen, the exhibition’s sponsor, is a member of Denmark’s socialist Red-Green Alliance party. Elected as an MEP in 2024, he is a member of The Left, a minority left-wing group representing around 6% of seats in the European Parliament.

“I think we need to have a discussion about power in the world and how this power is used,” he said on the phone from Strasbourg. “The way Trump acts is a very, very big problem for people in Europe. I want to raise the discussion in Europe about how we can make our self-defense against Trump, and how can we make politics that is not dependent on him.”

Aside from “some people from the extreme right wing,” Clausen said the response to the statue has been positive. “It’s very important that we in parliament have this opportunity to show things that not everybody agrees with.”

Galschiøt has exhibited “The Orange Plague” in public several times before, including at the Munich Security Conference and last November’s COP30 UN climate conference in Brazil. He also plans to display it at COP31 in Antalya, Turkey next month.

Now, one could argue that Trump has insulted Europe, and turnabout is fair play. Except...Trump has insulted Europe after decades of Europeans insulting us first, although usually it is with a sneer and under a veneer of classist superiority. Trump has just exposed them for what they truly are: mean girls from the third coolest clique. And they can't stand that they are so obviously inferior, even though they wear the best clothes and their mommies and daddies come from all the Best™ families.

A spokesperson for the European Parliament’s press service said via email that the exhibit was approved by the parliament’s quaestors, a cross-party group of MEPs responsible for administrative matters. “Each MEP is entitled to sponsor two cultural events or exhibitions per parliamentary term in dedicated areas,” the statement added, adding that quaestors “assess the compliance with the rules in place.”

As offensive as this is, somehow it fails to outrage me. It just seems so pathetic. The same people who spend half their time complaining that we don't do enough to defend them spend the other half lecturing us about how crude and evil we are. They brag about giving more welfare to their citizens, complain they aren't as rich as we are, and are ungrateful that they can only kinda afford their welfare state because we protect them from threats.

They are the 30+ gamers living in their parents' basement complaining that they aren't treated with enough respect.

So yes, this is insulting, and we note that. But consider the source.
