I am absolutely EXHAUSTED.

My cat has taken to walking on my CPAP, and since the power button is on the top, it immediately turns off when he does it.

Sometimes he stands on the power button. Sometimes he just steps on it as a jumping off point to get to the window. And sometimes he pushes it and looks at me.

My wife, bored out of her mind at the Detroit airport, immediately asked ChatGPT to create an image of the scene and sent me this. It is not perfectly accurate, since Little Mickey actually stands with his front paws on the power button (conveniently placed on top of the machine) while watching me choke.

I think he enjoys the reaction. I really do, proving that demons do possess people and animals. Well, maybe not PROVING it, but Tucker Carlson also says that he was inhabited by a demon or something like that, so it must be true.

Hmm. Maybe that is my residual displeasure showing.

In any case, I will have to do something about this, because I can't survive much longer like this. I got the CPAP so I could actually sleep, and until recently it was not a problem. The only issue was when the power went out, but I got a battery backup about a year or two ago that solved that problem.

My sleep apnea is pretty bad, and when the machine cuts off, I wake up immediately in the most unpleasant way possible, or close enough to see that point from there. Perhaps a serial killer with a knife would be ruder about awakening me, but you get the point.

Unfortunately, I actually have a pretty full day planned, so finding a time for a nap will be difficult. Luckily, I have three separate column briefs lined up and ready to go, so I can get ahead of tomorrow's schedule. I like to write about less time-sensitive issues for my morning post so I am not scrambling before the coffee kicks in, you see.

Muse now helps me with briefs and fact-checking before I start writing, at least when I have time. It provides background research and links beyond what I see immediately, which really helps, although, ironically, it often does the opposite and ends up taking more time on any given story. That's mostly my choice, because I discuss a lot of angles with it to clarify my thinking, and it is a good sparring partner.

It's funny, though. I have pounded into its silicon brain that I do all the writing, so at the end of every brief it says something like, "Here are the issues, the angles we discussed, etc., and you will do all the writing." It ends every brief with "you will do all the writing," since I guess the default is to provide a draft, and I don't want that, as apparently most people do.

Outsourcing your thinking doesn't just give you a mediocre product; it turns you into nothing more than a typist, and your brain atrophies.

You wind up giving people something that sounds like your CPAP was turned off or something.
