Ed: I am not a fan of "hate crime" designations -- but if we use them in other contexts, then we need to use them in ALL contexts. And that is exactly what this was, as anyone who watched that terrible video manifesto knows. This is the result of a deranged and hateful ideology that has been coddled for far too long in American society, as well as mental illness that feeds into it. It's time to rip the masks off the agitators who amplify this hate.

Jewish Insider: The assailant’s gun also included praise for mass killers “across the ideological spectrum,” including white supremacist, anti-Muslim and anti-government actors, the ADL stated.
Two of the names that appeared on the gun were Natalie Rupnow, who killed a staff member and a student at Abundant Life Christian School in Madison, Wis., last December, and Brenton Tarrant, who killed 51 people at two mosques in New Zealand in 2019.
Unverified images of the alleged shooter’s gun, taken from a video posted to a YouTube account believed to be associated with the shooter, show scrawlings on the gun and related paraphernalia that say “6 million wasn’t enough,” “Burn Israel,” “Israel must fall” and “Destroy HIAS,” a reference to the Jewish refugee organization.

PolitiFact, February 2024: Libs of TikTok described a “trans terrorist epidemic” and wrote on X that “the LGBTQ movement is turning activists into violent extremists.”
A year ago, we examined similar claims following a deadly shooting at a Nashville, Tennessee, school. Extremism and domestic terrorism experts told PolitiFact they knew of no widespread threats of growing radicalization or violence from the trans population.
A year later, the experts’ views remain the same.
Ed: There are lies, damned lies, and statistics, as Mark Twain once wrote. The problem is in how this comparison is framed. The question isn't whether LGBTQIA+ perps commit more mass shootings than other demos. The real question is this: Does the percentage of mass-shooting events committed by trans/queer-identifying perps match their relative percentage of the population? I suspect the answer is that the percentage of events caused by such perps outstrips their percentage of the population by a significant amount, and that was likely true by February 2024, too. However, the problem with this kind of statistical analysis is that these events really are exceedingly rare, thankfully, which is why they garner as much attention as they do. That makes this kind of statistical analysis unreliable. Even anecdotally, though, there is clearly a problem.

Daily Wire: Two years before a shooter opened fire on students attending daily mass in Minneapolis, the leaders of independent and Catholic schools in Minnesota begged Democrat Governor Tim Walz for help securing their schools, according to a 2023 letter reviewed by The Daily Wire. The funding was never authorized.
In a letter dated April 14, 2023 that specifically addressed “school safety in nonpublic schools,” Tim Benz, the president of MINNDEPENDENT and Jason Adkins, the executive director of the Minnesota Catholic Conference, stressed an “urgent and critical need in Minnesota to make sure our schools are secure and safe” in light of “recent, and continuing attacks, on our schools in this country and in our state.”
Ed: What did Walz do in response? He declared Minnesota a "sanctuary" state for transgender care, including sex-change therapies and surgeries directed at children. This is one reason why the Protection Racket Media will go radio silent on this story by the time the sun rises tomorrow.

National Catholic Register: Not long ago, the T in the LGBTQ+ alphabet was poised for success as transgender activists were gaining ground in health care, education, sports and popular culture.
But a shift in public opinion that influenced the 2024 presidential election and led to a series of executive orders by President Donald Trump appears to have stemmed the transgender tide for now.
In 2021, for example, there were 90 known gender clinics in operation in the United States, but as of Aug. 6, 35 had closed and another 28 had suspended treatment on minors. Additionally, 27 states have banned so-called gender-affirming care for minors, the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee has barred transgender athletes from competing for the U.S. in women’s sports, and the University of Pennsylvania has restored all individual records and titles to female athletes who lost to transgender swimmer Lia Thomas.
Ed: Can't happen fast enough. However, Congress needs to produce statutory changes to ensure that these cult practices get stamped out for good.

AP: About half of U.S. adults, 53%, say they approve of Trump’s handling of crime, the poll finds.
That’s higher than his approval rating on the economy, immigration and the conflict between Russia and Ukraine — which are in line with his overall approval rating.
Trump’s approach on crime is similarly popular among white and Hispanic adults, with roughly half in each group saying they approve of the way he’s handling the issue. Black adults, however, are substantially less likely to say they’re on board with Trump’s approach to crime, with just 27% in favor.
Trump also garners much stronger support from independents on crime than on other issues. Roughly half of independents approve of his handling of crime, compared with about 3 in 10 who approve of his handling of the economy, immigration and the Russia-Ukraine war.
Ed: In other words, the only voters who don't want crime addressed are Democrats. At the same time, fewer voters than ever identify as Democrats. At some point, will Democrats realize that these are related?

Ed: Phillip and the CNN panel are assuming that Trump declared martial law in DC. That's absurd. The National Guard are operating in support of the police in DC and under the same restrictions as the police in terms of law enforcement. This isn't a posse comitatus issue, nor is it martial law -- and since the federal government has jurisdiction in DC, the use of the Guard is entirely legitimate. Maybe Phillip should ask Mayor Bowser to explain it to her.
