Too Fun to Miss: The Bourne Identity School-Board Video

A Davis, California school board lectured teenage girls that they should feel comfortable undressing in front of boys. When a parent began to strip down to a bathing suit in protest, the same board members suddenly discovered their inner Puritans. Now they are threatening to press charges against Beth Bourne, and Bourne is threatening to sue the board for shutting down her speech at a public forum.

This may qualify as the video of the week -- or maybe even the year. It certainly wins the award for Most Hypocritical Progressive Scolds in 2025:

Beth Bourne, chair of the Yolo County chapter of Moms for Liberty, stepped to the microphone and began removing her clothes during public comment.

“I am just going to give you an idea what that looks like, when I undress,” Bourne said.

She told trustees she wanted them to feel the vulnerability she believes students face when classmates choose locker rooms based on gender identity.

“I wanted to give them more of a visual, what does it really look like changing and what would it feel like somebody of the opposite sex watching you change,” Bourne said.

Board members immediately recessed the meeting.

“No, you cannot," said Trustee Elizabeth Moon.

Aaaaaaand here's the video, which covers (heh) a small part of the overall confrontation:

This actually happened twice in the same meeting. The board recessed the first time, then had Bourne come back to the podium to finish her remarks. Bourne then began to remove her top again, and the trustees shut the meeting down altogether until law enforcement removed Bourne from the room.

Now the board wants to explore its options in dealing with the "inappropriate" actions by Bourne:

Trustee Cecilia Escamilla-Greenwald told the Vanguard that the board is now considering its next steps.

'We are going to be meeting about this, about what to do in such situations, and we’re going to - I know that our superintendent is going to be speaking with counsel to see what can be done because it’s very inappropriate for anybody to be coming before the board and behaving in such a manner,' she said. ...

Davis Police Lt. John Evans told the Davis Enterprise that cops took the report 'to document the incident to see if it meets the elements for Penal Code 403,' a misdemeanor offense of willfully disturbing or breaking up a lawful public meeting or assembly.

If it does and the school board decides it would like to pursue the matter, the case would likely be forwarded to the Yolo County District Attorney's Office for further review.

Ahem. Bourne is a grown woman who chose to undress down to a bathing suit. That may be "inappropriate," but the school board's position is that parents can't object when their teenage and pre-teen daughters have to fully disrobe in front of boys and be present while the boys get naked as well. The absurdity of that position makes this a perfect distillation of progressive hypocrisy, especially with the video of the trustees scattering at the mere suggestion of Bourne's adult body being revealed before their eyes. They practically rush to the exits rather than deal with that visual, which is both insulting to Bourne and hysterical in ever sense of that word.

As for Bourne, she's exploring her legal options as well. She has tried for three years to get her point across about how the Davis school board leaves girls vulnerable to predation without any change of policy. She wants to sue the board for blocking her speech and forcing them to account for the impact of their policies. Given their reaction to her own demonstration of vulnerability, Bourne wonders how they will justify continuing those policies:

Bourne said she's gone in front of the Davis Unified School Board every month for the last three years to talk about her concerns surrounding locker room policies, which allow students to self-identify gender and choose where to change and use the restroom.

"I just thought I would show the school board what it's like to change into your P.E. clothing and I had a bathing suit on, so everything was covered as far as my body," she said. ...

"If the adults don't feel comfortable watching someone, and I'm a 50-year-old woman, how can they expect girls to feel comfortable doing that in the locker room?" she said. "I thought I made a really good point."

You did, Ms. Bourne. You did.
