Ed: This is nine minutes of sheer truth. The most telling moment is when the audience gasps, and Maher picks up on it, saying that he's glad they're shocked so they wake up. John Hinderaker at Power Line: Hong is a far-leftist who, as noted in the earlier post, has called for Thanksgiving to be canceled and has advocated abolishing the Senate. But more information about her continues to come out. She was sued to recover defaulted credit card debt just a couple of months ago ...

Is it conceivable that such a candidate can actually secure the Democratic nomination for governor? Some mainstream Democrats, including outgoing Governor Tony Evers, are trying to stop her. But it is not clear that there is another viable candidate in the primary race, and the primary is in just ten days. Who votes in Democratic primaries? A lot of financially irresponsible people with histories of mental illness who like socialism and hate Thanksgiving. So Wisconsin’s governorship could be an easy pickup for Republicans in November.

Ed: Well, should be, anyway. Democrats lost Wisconsin and Michigan narrowly to Donald Trump two years ago, and instead of finding nominees for statewide offices that appeal to the middle, both states seem ready to nominate full-on communists, and in Michigan, a pro-intifada communist to boot. Republicans had better work hard to make Democrats pay for this 'colonization,' as Maher put it, not just in those states but in every contest this midterm cycle. If Hong wins the nomination, the GOP needs to hang her around every Democrat nominee's neck.

Ed: The Democrats tried the same thing with Graham Platner and his professed PTSD disability in Maine, until the consequences of nominating the mentally ill became obvious. The DSA's colonization of the Democrat Party has turned it into a collection of radical loons. Hong and Platner are not exceptions; they are becoming the rule. I included Shellenberger's caveat because I believe it to be fair, but ultimately immaterial. Voters do not owe the mentally ill a public office, no matter how well their illness is managed.

Brendan O'Neill at The Spectator: It isn’t only Spain’s sovereign integrity that lies in tatters following the storming of Ceuta – so does the tyranny of euphemism we’ve all been forced to labor under these past few years. Europe’s rulers have more keenly policed our language than the borders. They savaged every right-winger who used words like “invasion” or “colonization” to describe illegal immigration. Such patrician censure is surely untenable in the wake of Ceuta.

The policing of people’s emotions on the issue of mass immigration has felt staggeringly authoritarian. Watch your words, said a political class that couldn’t even watch the borders. Brits’ anger over the incursion into our country of men from distant, regressive lands was treated as a greater crime than the incursions themselves. Never mind that boat containing 600 men from God knows where – a pleb in the Red Wall has had an opinion about it!

It was ceaseless. There was a time when every colorfully worded blast against the state’s failure to defend our borders was denounced as fascistic speech. Nigel Farage was condemned for using the word “swarm” about illegal immigrants. Hope Not Hate even slammed the tabloid press for using the phrase “illegal immigrant.” Such rhetoric “feeds” the “far right,” it said. Even truth-telling became tantamount to a sin under the thought-policing regime. ...

The Ceuta crisis cuts like a hot knife through this dictatorship of sanitized speech. Who, now, will reprimand us for saying “invasion?” Who will denounce as “fascists” those who believe passionately in a nation’s right to sovereign integrity, and its citizens’ right to be defended from external forces? Nationhood is not racism. Protecting girls is not fascism. Patriotism is not a sin. 

Ed: Well said. It's not for nothing that George Orwell rooted his dystopian '1984' in the manipulation of language to gaslight the victims of the brutal Ingsoc regime. The Protection Racket Media has attempted to enforce this tyranny of euphemism by pushing people away from the proper and official term "illegal alien," first to "illegal immigrant," then "undocumented immigrant," and then "undocumented worker," when working in the US would also be illegal in those circumstances. I wrote about the Associated Press' long campaign to impose a "tyranny of euphemism" in February 2025, as did Matt Taibbi, and on a much broader scale than just illegal immigration. Time to return to blunt language and direct action.

Ed: This isn't a joke, although the satire itself is genuinely humorous. Minnesota all but adopted the Somali banner as its official state flag under Tim Walz. Spain just waved a different kind of flag to incentivize the invasion of Ceuta by tens of thousands of military-aged Muslims from Morocco.

Ed: Aziz is an idiot who apparently did not consider what she was admitting. Robinson and his allies are speaking out against the Islamicization of Britain, while Aziz is admitting that the Islamists are prepared to use violence rather than words at the drop of a hat. Robinson couldn't have made the point any better himself. Maher's point about taking radicals at face value stands.

WSJ: President Trump has ordered the military to launch a fresh attack on Iran that could begin as soon as this weekend and last a few days, U.S. officials said.

Ed: Perhaps events will moot this before it gets published, as I'm writing this at midday. However, this does not fill me with confidence that Trump will see it through. Why talk about this beforehand at all, if it's a real change in strategy? It sounds more like a threat to get Iran to offer concessions than it does a commitment to defeating the regime. And that's precisely how it will be read by the IRGC and everyone in the region.

Issues and Insights: We had to look twice at this headline in the New York Times to believe it.

“In Trump’s Economy, Job Gains Go to Women. That’s Not an Entirely Good Thing.”

Huh? Is the Times complaining that men are being shut out of the workforce?

Maybe the subhead will clear things up?

Nope. It says “Despite the administration’s best attempts, the diminishing status of many American jobs is driving a spike in women’s employment.”

“Best attempts”? At what? Driving down women’s employment? Is that really something the Trump administration has been putting its “best efforts” to achieve?

Hollywood in Toto: The latest cancellation is part of a disturbing, three-part process that keeps happening in a culture where antisemitism is soaring.

Part one: A Jewish artist agrees to appear at a venue to either talk about their work or perform

Part two: Pro-Palestinian protesters vow to boycott the event/club, slam the venue and, sometimes, threaten violence

Part three: The venue meekly backs down

There’s more to this frightening process. The Legacy Media gives the cancellations limited, if any, coverage. Imagine if a black singer faced a sudden cancellation due to his or her skin color?

The response would be dramatically different, no?

Ed: Indeed. But the Left employs intersectionality now to apply its values. Jews, whites, and blondes are at the bottom of that intersectional structure. The combination of communists and Islamists on the radical Left is what drives these attempts to exclude Jews from the public square, with the very real threat of violence as its modus operandi. This will only get worse as these strategies succeed in silencing and suppressing dissent to the socialist elite.

Republican-led states like Florida have prioritized fraud enforcement and tighter oversight, while debates in states like Georgia have centered on reimbursement rates and preserving access to care. The scrutiny comes as the Trump administration has made it a focus of his second term to eliminate fraud, waste and abuse across federal programs, including Medicaid, a central policy priority.

Ed: Fraud is fraud and must be minimized if not eliminated entirely to ensure that resources get directed to the proper recipients. Ron DeSantis will likely get criticized via anecdotes of families who have had benefits delayed by fraud controls, but as we have seen in Minnesota especially, billions can get stolen from programs when states don't police these benefit programs.
