Old and busted: Death to America! New hotness: Vote early and often – for Democrats!
The regime that has conducted war against the United States for nearly a half-century while calling it the “Great Satan” has a public service announcement for American voters. The IRGC has put aside their ambitions of a world without the US and Israel for just a moment for a heartfelt message on how voters can improve our country to Iran’s liking. And to no one’s surprise, they’d hate us slightly less if we elected Democrats in the midterms, the New York Post reported last night:
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps put out a 25-page letter addressed to Americans urging them to oppose President Donald Trump during the upcoming midterm elections.
The IRGC, which as repeatedly tried to sway the Nov. 3 US elections, claimed that the president and his support of Israel were the cause of the war — as they urged voters to reject both in the voting booth.
“America’s national security and the lives of its service members are entrusted to someone who is not only an inveterate liar but is also an insanely avaricious man whose only motivation in life is the accumulation of greater wealth,” IRGC spokesman Hossein Mohebbi said in the regime’s latest attack on Trump.
The letter accuses Trump of concealing the “peaceful nature” of Iran’s nuclear program despite allegations from the International Atomic Energy Agency watchdog that Tehran was enriching its uranium beyond what’s needed for a power plant.
Bold strategy, Cotton. Perhaps it will be as effective as it would have been if the Nazis urged Americans to vote Republican in 1940, or if the Kaiser campaigned for Charles Evans Hughes in 1916. For those claiming that those comparisons might be a wee bit unfair, that may be true, because neither regime had an unbroken 47-year record of hostility and terrorism against the US at those times.
Speaking of which, the IRGC also expressed its indignation over its designation as a terror organization:
The IRGC also lashed out against the US government designating the security force as a terrorist group, claiming there was not “a single verifiable instance where the IRGC has committed an act of violence against civilians.”
Ahem. The IRGC and its Basij elements just massacred tens of thousands of its own civilians in January to put down a popular revolt against the regime. They sponsor Hamas, which massacred 1200 Israeli civilians in a single day three years ago. The IRGC also sponsors Hezbollah, which has constantly targeted civilians for the last 46 years, including the kidnapping of American civilians in the Middle East in the 1980s, targeting Jews in Buenos Aires in the 1990s, and so on. Currently, the regime is actively targeting civilian commercial transports in international waters in the Strait of Hormuz and attempting to expand those attacks into the Red Sea.
So yes, the IRGC is a terrorist organization, both directly and through its proxies, all of which have targeted civilians in Israel, the Middle East, and Jews anywhere they can be found. It also acts as a massive drug cartel via Hezbollah, which operated out of Venezuela until the US seized Nicolas Maduro and imposed a scared-straight set of consequences on Delcy Rodriguez. The IRGC had also run a vast black-market oil network until very recently, with its main clients being China and Russia, until Donald Trump imposed an economic siege that may well break the regime if Republicans can hold the Senate and fend off Congress until the job is finished.
And now, the IRGC has endorsed Democrats! I bet Chuck "Big Tent" Schumer will find room for them, or if not, Rashida Tlaib and Abdul El-Sayed will get right on that.
What does this tell us about the regime? First, like most totalitarian regimes, they overestimate the power of their propaganda in open societies. The regime has been proving this all along, with their constant string of Baghdad Bob-style communiqués about their upcoming fatal blow on the Great Satan, etc. This particular piece of propaganda shows that they are highly engaged with American politics and the upcoming midterms, though, and the pressure they believe they can exert on Trump to retreat from the Hormuz Crisis.
What they may not grasp is the value that has for Trump and the GOP. The IRGC likely thinks that Trump's relative unpopularity and declining support for the war give the Iranian regime an opening with the American people. As surveys such as the Harvard-Harris CAPS poll show, though, the Iranian regime is far more unpopular with American voters, with only 16% showing a favorable attitude, essentially tied with communism and only barely above the IRGC's proxies Hamas and Hezbollah, tied at 11%. Israel is far more popular here at 39%, even with the impacts of Iranian and Islamist propaganda against it.
Also, while the Iran war may not be popular here, it's not foremost on voters' minds. The same survey shows that the issue ranks ninth in midterm considerations with 4%, tied with AI and "racial equity," and below abortion, climate change, and immigration. Even among Democrats, only three percent rank it as a leading issue for this election cycle. Like most totalitarians, the IRGC vastly overestimates its reach, especially in a country they have been damning to death for 47 years.
Finally, this allows the GOP to leverage this ham-handed attempt by radical jihadis to lift Democrats into office – if they want to take that risk. Normally, the same voters who would shrug off this stupid propaganda might punish those who cynically exploit it in domestic politics. With candidates like El-Sayed in Michigan and Adam Hamawy in New Jersey on the midterm ballot, not to mention the influence of Zohran Mamdani and radical Hamasniks on the Democrat Party the last three years, any use would not be all that cynical in 2026. Don't be surprised if some super-PACs start getting the IRGC's message to voters as a way of explaining what the stakes really are in this midterm cycle, even if the GOP and its candidates take a ten-foot pole approach.
Addendum: The IRGC may be feeling the squeeze at home, too. The National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) sent out a statement today that "resistance units" conducted a number of attacks on Basij targets yesterday:
To mark the anniversary of the horrific 'Bloody Friday' massacre in Zahedan (September 30, 2022), Resistance Units carried out 40 daring operations on September 29, 2026, across Tehran and 22 other cities to honor the martyrs of the uprising. These operations were successfully executed despite the full alert of the regime's suppressive forces in Tehran, Mashhad, Zahedan, Iranshahr, Karaj, Isfahan, Ahvaz, Qom, Ilam, Bushehr, Qazvin, Kermanshah, Bandar Abbas, Birjand, Shahriar, Dezful, Chabahar, Javanrud, Saveh, Azadshahr, Marivan, Khash, and Dehdasht.
During the massacre on September 30, 2022, in Zahedan, suppressive forces opened direct fire on defenseless and unarmed worshippers, killing scores of protesters. The People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) has released the names of 117 of these martyrs.
The targeted centers of repression included:
- Three explosions at the IRGC Basij center in Dehdasht
- explosions at two IRGC Basij bases in Mashhad
- setting fire to two IRGC and Basij bases in Zahedan
- setting fire to two IRGC Basij bases in Iranshahr
- setting fire to two bases and one Basij unit of the IRGC in Ahvaz
- setting fire to the IRGC infantry battalion headquarters in Marivan
- setting fire to IRGC Basij bases in Javanrud and Chabahar
- and torching signs of the Ministry of Intelligence and IRGC espionage and surveillance centers in Bandar Abbas and Ilam.
The PMOI/MEK have been putting pressure on the regime for years, but it's escalating now at a time when the IRGC can least afford it. It also shows that some elements within the population are seeing an opportunity to knock out the mechanisms of oppression that keep the regime afloat. That could develop momentum for a widespread popular revolt that would solve everyone's problems. Strategic patience is the key, and electing Democrats is not the way to achieve that. And the IRGC knows it.
