Democrats' Growing Credibility Gap May Cost Them the Midterms

The world looks a little topsy-turvy right now, and conservatives have become an easy scapegoat: Gas prices are high, the conflict with Iran is at a fever pitch and Republicans in Congress are twiddling their thumbs instead of passing vital legislation.

Despite this advantage, Democrats are still struggling to earn and keep credibility. They’re losing voter trust heading into the November elections because there’s a perceived gap between how they campaign and how they govern.

Abigail Spanberger is a cautionary tale for Democrats

Virginia Gov. Abigail Spanberger is a prime example. Following her November win over Winsome Earle-Sears, it was clear Virginians had chosen the wrong woman for governor. Now, voters themselves seem to agree.

According to a new Washington Post-Schar School poll, Spanberger’s approval rating stands at 47% just two months into her term – with 46% of voters already disapproving. Her support has dropped by double digits. For a brand new governor coming off the adrenaline and accolades of a big win, that’s not a great sign.
