My Dinner With Freddy

I sampled one on the way home from a late day at school. I’ve driven by the place a number of times, but I honestly don’t eat fast food often except when I’m on the road — or doing a burger review for you, dear readers. But the other day I was hungry and it seemed like a good idea.

The people were friendly, and the counter guy was scandalized that I didn’t order fries. He even offered me some for free when I declined his entreaties. (Honestly, I should have tried them just for the review purposes. But this is a burger review, not a fries review, or a combo review, or whatever, so I kept it simple.)

The burger they gave me didn’t look nearly as good as the one pictured above:

But that’s par for the course with fast food. McDonald’s and Wendy’s both have faced false-advertising lawsuits because their burgers don’t look like the ones in the ads. They won. The judge essentially found that the advertising pictures were idealized images of the product, and that that was common in food photography. Which is true. Burger King faced similar claims regarding the Whopper, which survived motions to dismiss, but foundered on a refusal to certify a national class.
