Miracles Abound

We Hebrews are coming to the end of the Sukkot holiday and yesterday was a particularly incredible day. I do not understand how anyone can say that they don't believe in miracles. Yesterday, we witnessed miracle upon miracle as regular Israelis charged the cockpit of the Fly Dubai airline they were on while en route to Tel Aviv, foiling the plan of the (not yet confirmed) Omani co-pilot who attacked the Indian pilot in mid air with a hatchet, making the plane nose dive 15,000 feet. One of the heroes of the day was a plumber, who said that he learned to pull the plane up because he watched the TV show about airline disasters!

How can one explain the fact that there were two other pilots on the plane, and even a medical professional (a dentist) who stabilized the critically injured pilot until their emergency landing in Saudi Arabia. And then to see Saudi Arabians tenderly care for the Israelis safely on the ground? Quoting from Psalm 104: "How numerous are Your works LORD; You made them all in wisdom; the earth is full of Your creations." In Hebrew, this phrase has an even more wondrous tone - like you are standing in absolute awe looking at the works of G-d. Absolutely spectacular. The passengers were singing songs of praise merely seconds after being told that the threat was neutralized on the plane. They praised G-d in song upon landing in Saudi Arabia, and then landing in Israel. I'm telling you, I got weepy more than a few times yesterday. Miracle upon miracle upon miracle. I would also like to extend prayers of healing to Captain Smit Machchhar as he recovers in Saudi Arabia - a true hero and man of incredible strength and bravery.

In and amongst the festivities of the week, sitting in our lovely Sukkah, making nice meals and celebrating with family, I had a little moment of supreme parental satisfaction. We had cleaned up from supper and everyone was chilling and doing their own thing. And then one of the kids reminded me of a series of videos on YouTube that had cracked us all up years ago when the kids and their friends were in grade school. Prompted by that memory, we went down the YouTube memory hole and found them and we watched them again with fresh eyes, still laughing our heads off (the content was nothing special, just really weird and funny) and I had a moment of feeling so full of joy, and feeling like me and Mr. C really did a good job. I think one of the measures of doing it right as a parent is if your adult kids want you around, or like to come around. You know when there's a moment in time that you wish you could bottle and save for the future? It was one of those. It had already been a great holiday, but yesterday's miracle in the air was further icing on the cake.
