It has been a nasty and disappointing midterm election campaign and whatever the result, few will be unhappy to see the end of it. The irrational and almost sociopathic hatred of President Trump even in civilized, ostensibly Republican circles is less enlightening about Mr. Trump than about the intellectually corrupt and mediocre Republican Party whose headship he seized ten years ago.
It is comparatively understandable that the Democrats, now reduced to an incoherent squabbling pantomime horse of anti-American extremists and exhausted hacks and mediocrities: the El-Sayeds and the Schumers pretending to be a viable political alternative, cannot utter a civilized or even a sensible word about Mr. Trump.
It is comprehensible that those in both parties who squandered America’s shining moment of unchallenged authority in the world in the post-Reagan years following the disintegration of the Soviet Union are bilious and spiteful. The Clintonians and Obamans to be sure, but also the Bush-McCain-Romney Republicans, all of them were together swindled by Communist China and North Korea and Iran and produced the disasters in Iraq and Afghanistan, the collapse of public education and woke rot and self-hate of most of the universities. Their fanatical dislike of Mr. Trump is not altogether surprising, if only because of terminal envy.
What is more disappointing is that the surviving Reaganites are not only rooting for the Democrats. They are so hostile to Mr. Trump, they are serenely overlooking the blight of wokeness, the paroxysmal racism, the bottomless corruption of Minnesota and other places, the ambition to turn the United States into a one-party state where the Democratic bosses and Alinskyites, (feature the egregious dirty trickster Marc Elias and the phony same-name candidacy in Alaska), emasculate the Supreme Court, pack the Senate, and build a permanent majority of destitute illegal migrant Democrats.
