Why is this happening? The brothers are facing charges in England, but yesterday they said they plan to fight extradition to face those charges.
The influencer brothers Andrew and Tristan Tate will remain in custody as their lawyers told a court on Monday that they plan to fight extradition to England to face charges of rape, sex trafficking and pornography, including charges related to indecent images of a child...
The Tates appeared in federal court after marshals arrested them on Saturday at a bare-knuckle boxing event in downtown Miami. The two wore tan jail jumpsuits and shackles, speaking only to acknowledge that they had read court documents pertaining to their case...
The Tates have hired the high-profile South Florida law firm of Roy Black to fight the extradition. The attorneys will convene before a magistrate judge in one week to discuss scheduling a hearing to decide whether the brothers will remain in detention while they fight extradition.
As for why this is happening now, that's because they are facing new charges.
While the brothers were already facing rape and human trafficking charges in the UK, the latest charges were brought forward after British police investigated reports made by four additional victims, UK authorities said, bringing a total of 59 charges between them.
In a complaint unsealed Monday against Andrew Tate, prosecutors detailed allegations from British authorities that involved two victims. It said one woman, working in the “webcam business,” was put in chokeholds, causing her to lose consciousness, as he raped her in an alleged attack at her home in Bedford, England, in 2015...
Andrew Tate faces an additional seven counts of rape, three counts of sex trafficking, three counts of assault and 19 more charges relating to “indecent images of a child and extreme pornography,” prosecutors said in a statement. He now faces a total of 42 charges, including rape, human trafficking, indecent images of a child and assault, according to the UK Crown Prosecution Service and Bedfordshire Police.
In an unsealed document against Tristan Tate, British authorities alleged he repeatedly raped a woman he was in a long-term, romantic relationship between 2012 and 2013, choking her to the point she was unconscious, and hitting her with a belt on multiple occasions that caused “serious bruising and welts” on her body. On one occasion, she said he struck her, causing a black eye, the document said.
Pretty awful stuff and this is why they are facing extradition. Finally, it's worth noting that Andrew Tate wanted authorities to come and arrest him in Miami, saying he erased his phone every night.
Someone noticed that in the video of the arrest, he tried to hand his phone to a bodyguard. The bodyguard seems to have dropped it but it was picked up by someone else in the entourage.

Did police get the phone? Probably not. If it went home with one of the brother's people it will no doubt be erased or disappear.
