I know I'm not being really fair about this, but the story struck me as so typical of holier-than-thou, bullying Democrats that I just have to share.
What makes it fit the mold so perfectly is why Chief Matthew Clancy, head of the Maine Capitol Police, got his job to begin with. For that, we have to go back to 2021 in a state just beginning to really drip and seethe with the poisonous woke progressive ideology that now permeates every facet of life there.
The Chief of the Capitol Police at that time was named Russell Gauvin. He had ably managed the capital's safety and security for fourteen years, until an 'alternative weekly' went digging and found his private Facebook and social media accounts and published excerpts.
Now, they weren't talking about little boys or leather fetishes, which to Maine progressives would have been more acceptable than what the chief had been saying. Especially when you consider there's a radically Democratic dominated legislature ensconced in that statehouse.
And Governor Janet Mills.
WOOF
For example, in one shocking and unforgivable opinion, he was outed as an anti-masker. And no Joe Biden...
...Gauvin was removed from his post and put on paid administrative leave in January after a report in the Portland-based alternative news publication Mainer shared months of Gauvin's politically-charged social media posts.
The report showed screenshots of posts that had since been deleted, including one that questioned the usefulness of wearing masks to combat the spread of COVID-19. Another suggested law enforcement officers eligible for retirement might do so after Joe Biden, who was president-elect at the time, took office.
...or Black Lives Matter fan.
Like lightning, everyone was calling for Gauvin's head. AWFL Maine Governor Janet Mills promptly had investigators crawling up the chief's clandestine conservative derriere.
...Gauvin, a career law enforcement officer and U.S. Air Force veteran, had managed the Capitol Police for more than 14 years without major incident. However, in early January 2021, Gauvin came under fire after left-wing activists and Democratic politicians flagged a series of posts and shares from his personal Facebook account that expressed skepticism about COVID-19 mask mandates, raised questions about election security, and criticized the Black Lives Matter movement.
The posts, many of which were made in a personal capacity, were characterized by critics as undermining public trust.
Progressive groups, including the ACLU of Maine, called for his immediate suspension.
Democratic Gov. Janet Mills placed Gauvin on administrative leave pending an investigation.
Unforgivable sins to progressives, asking in one post, 'Where are the scientific studies on this?'
After three months of gaslighting BS, he lost his job, and retired, disgraced and marooned with a piddly-ass payout.
...As part of the agreement, the state will pay Gauvin $87,000 in severance pay and unused time off. Gauvin will resign in "good standing," according to the agreement, but cannot reapply for any job with the department.
The howling mob in Augusta at the Capitol found Matthew Clancy for the Chief's position, who has now covered himself in glory of a different sort.

What a peach. I love the description of the incident, though.
Maine Capitol Police Chief Matthew M. Clancy, 62, of Sidney, was taken to the ground, cuffed and stuffed after biting off more than he could chew with a Hallowell police officer Friday night outside some popular drinking establishments.
According to information reviewed by The Maine Wire, the Hallowell police officer observed a subject causing a disturbance outside a Water Street bar and quickly identified a tall man arguing with security.
When the officer instructed the man to leave the premises immediately, Clancy became belligerent.
According to police records, Clancy poked the officer in the forehead and told him he did not, in fact, have to leave.
This assertion from the State House’s top cop turned out to be, in fact, false.
The officer promptly “escorted” Clancy to the ground and placed him in handcuffs.
Clancy is a big goon of a guy, and anecdotal reports are that he was feeling all of his oats against the smaller local Hallowell cop. After the poke in the forehead, the Hallowell officer had had enough, and instead of shooting the big lug, he Ninja'd him to the sidewalk.
The picture is worth a thousand words.
Another great example of why all cops should be in great physical shape.

The cop who made this collar was up a against a big drunk fellow cop. Could have gone for his taser/gun, but instead he just tae kwon do'd his as to the ground.https://t.co/A30G0wBRiv
Nothing out of the statehouse or whackjob Governor Mills yet about her totally professional Capitol Police Chief replacement or if she's got anything planned for him as far as a pee-pee whacking goes.
...Clancy, who has led the Capitol Police since 2021 and previously served as a police chief in Massachusetts, was arrested just after midnight Friday on Water Street. He now faces three misdemeanor charges: assault, disorderly conduct and refusing to submit to arrest.
...Whether Clancy will face any consequences for his late-night fisticuffs with a Hallowell cop remains to be seen.
How embarrassing is 'too' embarrassing for Democrats?
I mean, this reportedly isn't even Clancy's first rodeo with being a little 'under the weather' in public, if you get my drift.
The chief of Maine’s Capitol Police was arrested Friday after allegedly assaulting a local police officer outside a Hallowell bar, records reviewed by The Maine Wire show. It was not the first time the former Massachusetts police officer has had an encounter with Maine law enforcement.
Matthew Clancy, 62, of Sidney, was charged with misdemeanor counts of assault, disorderly conduct and refusing to submit to arrest following a late-night disturbance Friday in downtown Hallowell, according to police records.
But on July 8, 2023, Clancy avoided a charge of operating under the influence after an interaction with a Waterville police officer.
I'll bet she wants to find out if the Hallowell cop is a registered Republican before she does anything.
...Appointed Capitol Police chief in 2021, Clancy is a 39-year veteran of law enforcement, including 20 years in leadership roles in Massachusetts. He holds a degree from the FBI National Academy and emphasized accountability and transparency when he assumed the Maine post.
