An American in Dresden...Was Knifed in the Face by a Syrian

Sunday night, on the train from Weixdorf to Dresden, a couple of Germany's imported residents who were traveling in a group began harassing female passengers. The two men apparently zeroed in on a couple of young women for some extraordinary rudeness, enough to draw the attention of a 21-year-old American who was a passenger in the car at the same time.

The young American stepped in to protect the women and fend off the harassers.

The police report is so dry.

Argument in tram – witnesses sought

Time: 24.08.2025, 00:25
Location: Dresden-Innere Neustadt

On tram line 7, which was traveling towards Gorbitz, an argument broke out between three people at the Neustädter Markt stop.

Initially, two men from a group harassed female passengers on the train. A 21-year-old US citizen intervened and was stabbed by one of the other perpetrators during the ensuing altercation. The two perpetrators then fled the scene. Police officers who were called to the scene managed to catch one of the two, a 21-year-old Syrian, nearby. They are investigating him and the still-unidentified man for, among other things, grievous bodily harm.

The two Syrians involved in the incident didn't take kindly to the fellow interrupting what they've become accustomed to doing without any interventions at all, and, after coming at him with their fists...

...According to BILD, Majd A. is not the stabber; the serious injuries are believed to have been caused by the fugitive accomplice. A. is said to have initially attacked the US citizen with fists, according to BILD. The Syrian, who fled the scene on an e-scooter, is known to the police for grievous bodily harm, robbery, and illegal entry.

...one of them pulled - surprise! - a knife on the kid, and proceeded to sling it in his face.

They sliced the young hero up pretty badly, enough that he was considered in serious condition as they rushed him to the hospital. And the pictures on the front of the German newspapers told the tale of what had transpired.

Both Syrians fled from the train and, while authorities did manage to snatch one up later, the actual knife-wielder is still believed to be at large. Maddeningly and in classic fashion, the Germans released the accomplice they were holding almost immediately, even though the miscreant had a lengthy and violent criminal record already.

...One suspect—identified as a 21-year-old Syrian national—fled on an electric scooter and was apprehended roughly half a mile away from the scene. He was detained temporarily but later released. "He was provisionally arrested and has been released by decision of the public prosecutor's office," police spokesman Thomas Geithner told Bild.

Authorities have not clarified the reason behind his release. According to the Bild report, the arrested suspect has a criminal record, including previous offenses such as dangerous bodily harm and robbery.

The other suspect, believed to have inflicted the knife wounds, remains at large. The weapon has not been recovered. Investigators are reviewing tram surveillance footage and seeking eyewitness accounts from other passengers.

Photos from the crime scene published by Bild show blood on the tram's floor and tissues used by bystanders attempting to stanch the bleeding. A police spokesperson confirmed that both suspects are under investigation for grievous bodily harm.

So the Syrian German prosecutors released has a violent criminal record, is an illegal alien, and did, in fact, physically attack the young American victim...but German authorities let him go because?

In Germany, it seems beating a stranger is fine. It's the knife thing that freaks them out.

...Authorities in Dresden said that they didn’t have enough evidence linking the man to the knife attack.

“According to the on-call public prosecutor’s assessment, there were insufficient grounds for detention. The knife attack cannot be attributed to him,” Senior Public Prosecutor Jurgen Schmidt told Bild.

I mean, that's how I read that.

That's pretty much how the victim of the attack by the two Syrians is interpreting it, too.

THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME...IF THEY COULD DO THIS TO THE PEOPLE OF GERMANY AND THEN JUST GET RELEASED TWELVE HOURS LATER...EVEN LESS AT THIS POINT...WHERE IS THE LAW?

There's a question.

Rick Grenell was blasting Chancellor Friedrich Merz this morning.

His Xweet had the brave American's video from the hospital attached to it.

Richard Grenell, the US Presidential Envoy for Special Missions, has criticised German Chancellor Friedrich Merz over Germany’s lax response to a rise in immigrant crime.

...Grenell’s remarks came as a reaction to the stabbing of a US student on a German tram that was allegedly committed by a Syrian asylum seeker.

The US student himself had posted a video from hospital shortly after the attack that showed him with a bandaged face. “If [allegedly criminal asylum seekers] can do this to the people of Germany and then just get released 12 hours later, where’s the law?” he said.

The 21-year-old student said he had witnessed two men accosting a group of young women on a tram in Dresden (Saxony) late on the night of August 23. According to German police the US citizen intervened to help the harassed women. In reaction the two then allegedly started hitting the him. A short while later one of them pulled out a knife and allegedly stabbed him in the face several times.

And this, again, is the crux of the problem with the German system. They can do nothing with the criminals they've allowed into the country.

NOTHING.

...Despite the two men allegedly attacking the US student together, the stabbing was being treated as a separate offence, the perpetrator of which was still at large.

Germany only allows pretrial detention as a rare exception. Reportedly, the prosecutors saw no chance of obtaining an arrest warrant from the investigating judge in this case as there was no risk of Majd A fleeing, concealing evidence or reoffending as he has a permanent place of residence.

The police are now looking for witnesses and have secured CCTV footage from the tram.

It's maddening, and this remarkable young man, for fearlessly stepping in to do the right, manly thing, nearly paid with his life.

The attackers will pay nothing and no doubt be right back at it.

I'm sure Merz is much more angry at the American for interfering and getting sliced than he is at the Syrians thanks to all this unwanted attention over something German citizens have to deal with daily (eugyppius also has a video of the aftermath of the attack at the link - a little too graphic to post here).

...Because the victim was an American, this case has made headlines across Anglophone media, but the truth is that this happens all the time now, and many cases as bad as or worse than this one pass with little notice. In 2024, authorities counted an average of 79 knife attacks per day in the Federal Republic. There are dozens if not hundreds of news stories out there, so many I no longer bother to keep track of them. Here’s a report from June about a 39 year-old man who died of knife wounds after getting into a fight with a bunch of Afghans in Berlin. Here’s a report from the beginning of August about a 40 year-old Tunisian migrant who stole a knife from a butcher shop in Wuppertal and used it to menace passers-by until police shot him. Here’s a report from July about the Syrian who injured four people on the Intercity Express from Straubing to Plattling with an axe. And here’s a report that made the news just today about a knife fight among Afghans in Berlin that left six injured. These stories are relentless.

The local AfD chapter in Dresden, however, took time to thank the young hero for his courage.

That was nicely done.

Let me end on a much happier note. This was Milan's airport four days ago, as yet another asylum seeker - from Mali, this time - runs amok, setting fires and smashing things to bits with a hammer.

Everyone books out except for one stalwart, immovable fellow who has, of all things, a fire extinguisher.

Do turn the sound up so you can hear the good, solid THUNK as said extinguisher impacts said asylum seeker's head.

He drops like a stone.
