Quite a lot has happened since last night's 'two weeks off for good behavior' announcement, huh?
For one thing, the good behavior is suspiciously missing from one of the 'double-sided' aspects of the ceasefire agreement.
As big, bold, and full of bull as that demand wishlist is that the Iranians have been shopping all over the airwaves as if it were a 'we won' done deal, they have been unsparingly antagonistic to their Gulf neighbors all night long.

The United Arab Emirates issued a statement that was more of a running tab on the number of projectiles and casualties during the 'ceasefire.'
UAE Air Defenses engaged 17 Ballistic Missiles and 35 UAV's.
The Ministry of Defense announced that on April 8, 2026, UAE air defense engaged 17 ballistic missiles and 35 UAV's launched from Iran.
Since the onset of the blatant Iranian attacks, UAE air defenses have engaged a total of 537 ballistic missiles, 26 cruise missiles, and 2,256 UAV's.
The Saudi pipeline that's been moving 7M bbls a day, bypassing the Strait of Hormuz for its Red Sea ports, was attacked and damaged by an Iranian drone last night, but is still functional. They're doing damage assessments.

Iranian missiles were launched at Israeli cities throughout the night, well past the window where one would have presumed it would have taken time to get word to crews about the ceasefire.

As I told a friend last evening, whoever is left in Tehran doing this negotiating may not have complete control over the proxies in the nether regions anymore, either. That is going to begin to show up. Everyone is always pointing to fractures within whatever ruling layers of the regime remain, but that's not the only problem. There are layers and layers to the malignant proxy web the mullahs have woven over the decades. Not everyone who was gifted a set of shoulder-fired missile launchers or a drone stash in the past is going to be malleable as far as acting on the direction of whoever's alive and in charge at the moment.
There are reports that the UAE took matters into its own hands after the attacks and hit Iranian petrochemical and oil installations.
The UAE conducted airstrikes on Siri and Lavan Islands in the Persian Gulf.

Meanwhile, for all the repeated moaning and groaning last about that laundry list released by the Iranians that everyone kept saying was what Trump had agreed to, Trump officially poured cold water on it, as Ed pointed out this morning.
People should read what's written instead of read INTO what's written. All Trump's original post had said was that it would be accepted as the basis for negotiations.

He's also announced this morning that any country caught supplying arms to Iran during the break in action, however long it lasts, should have its checkbook out. It's going to cost them.
LOOKING AT YOU, CHINA
The U.S. will impose tariffs of 50% on “any and all” goods imported to the country from any nation “supplying military weapons to Iran”, President Donald Trump said on Wednesday.
Trump said in a Truth Social post that any country found to be supplying Iran with weapons would be subject to the levy “immediately”, with no “exclusions or exemptions”.
The Strait of Hormuz is still a sticky issue. There wasn't much marine traffic flowing yet, and now it's come to a screeching halt, because Israel has hit Hezbollah elements in Lebanon again. Now that country was not part of the ceasefire parameters, but Iran is claiming a breach regardless and using that as an excuse to shut down what little movement there was.
"Lebanon was not included in the ceasefire agreement," Trump said in an interview with PBS, followed up by the Iraqi News Agency - INA, explaining that its exclusion was "due to the Hezbollah issue, which remains unresolved."

What the parameters were for the Strait to open were always a little fuzzy in any event, as Iran wanted Bitcoin cash, and Oman had said they could suck a stone. Nobody would be paying the Iranians anything.

This is such a shriek, we should actually thank them for the comic relief in the middle of all this, for however long the impulse to lead lasts.
France Leads 15-Country Effort to Reopen Strait of Hormuz
French President Emmanuel Macron said about 15 countries were planning to facilitate the resumption of traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, through which a fifth of the world's oil supply usually flows, after a ceasefire between the United States and Iran was announced.
"About 15 countries are currently mobilised and are participating in the planning, under France's leadership, to enable the implementation of this strictly defensive mission in coordination with Iran to facilitate the resumption of traffic," Macron said on Wednesday, speaking at the start of his meeting on defence with advisers and members of his cabinet.
As shaky as the ceasefire is, Macron might not even make it to the dock for a heroic au revoir before he leads the scuttle back to safety.
And honestly, I wouldn't even characterize the ceasefire as shaky - I would say it was a hologram. Iran never abided by it and now is flagrantly using Israel's offensive against their terrorist proxies in Lebanon as an excuse to renege on it.

I'm not sure what the Iranians gained in this charade if they do, but what I would believe the US and allies gained is a much clearer picture of what the command and control structure looks like within Tehran and its circles beyond than they had post-wiping the mullah, presidential, and high-level officials slates for several layers deep.
As legal blogger Shipwrecked Crew posited, we may have gained that last little bit of insight we needed while taking a bit of a breather.
Pres. Trump declared a cease fire for 2 weeks on the condition that Iran open the Strait.
It looks like in less than 24 hour Iran has not met the condition and it did not honor the ceasefire yesterday when it launched missile and drone attacks around the Middle East.
Pres. Trump has them back in a condition of not knowing when or what he might opt to do next because the two week window is now inoperative whether they realize it or not.
US, Israel and the Gulf States are collecting signals and human intelligence that will inform what needs to be done next.
The next 24-48 hours are going to be so interesting, as the president has given the humanitarians their shot, and the Iranians blew it from the beginning.
There's nothing to stop Trump if he feels he needs to act.
