If you read my post on the Great American State Fair on the Mall in Washington, D.C., you probably noticed that temperatures are slightly above the norm (!) for this time of year. If you're me, you've been on the receiving end of Signal chat pictures from Brother Bingley with his New Jersey temperature readings, and friends on X have been sending them along as well.
Rarely do I feel guilty for being in Florida, but today?
Woof!

I am a bit abashed, as we are supposed to be the sweltering south here, but, self-centered as I am, I'm taking them so gratefully.
For those of you dear readers who have dropped your own miserable conditions in the comments earlier - like sojourner's ghastly Real Feel of 128° near D.C.? Oh, I hope your grid is rock solid and gets you through the next couple of days in the comfort you have every right to expect and that you most assuredly pay out the wazoo for.
In the Mid-Atlantic, where communists have damn near full sway, like the grinning infant in charge of New York City, this is yet another chance to flog a dead unicorn and urge everyone to suffer under Congo-like temperature conditions thanks to climate cult tyranny.
The dictator will dole out whatever coolness he feels appropriate to keep the masses just under control while husbanding the limited resources the bureaucracy's hive-like incompetence and devotion to dogma have forced on them.

Alas, poor New Yorkers - 78° in your hermetically sealed apartment box may not be hot enough to save you...even in the dark.
New York’s electric grid is under heavy strain as this heat wave drives up energy demand.

...We’re asking New Yorkers to voluntarily conserve power by setting your A/C between 75–78°, avoiding unnecessary appliance use, and turning off lights and electronics when they’re not needed.
These small steps can help prevent outages, keep the power on, and protect the most vulnerable members of our communities.
My team is coordinating with Con Edison, NYISO, and New York City leaders to reduce demand across the grid.
Oooh, it's just 'small steps' not to die of heatstroke in your own bed like a damn obstinate Frenchman.
Oh, life can be so cruel.
Especially when you're a pigheaded ideologue determined to bankrupt your citizens and destroy their standard of living.
It almost sounds like the start of a fairy tale, and perhaps it is; the memory of those lost rational times seems so distant.
But, once upon a time in New York, there was plenty enough power to turn the a/c on...
The NY Power Authority shut down Indian Point and then tweeted a poll asking for suggestions about what renewables they should invest in.
— Joe Colangelo (@Itsjoeco) July 2, 2026
Then so many people replied "nuclear" that they shut off replies and eventually deleted the tweet. pic.twitter.com/bDs3OkJYWu
...and even turn it down.
Those times of plenty are going to stay 'distant' no matter how miserable and poor the people of New York, and, by extension, New England are if their elected officials have anything to do with it.
NO GAS FOR YOU!!
The thirteen-state area served by the massive PJM interconnection regional transmission organization (RTO) is melting in the heat, too.
I've written about their mad rush to renewables many, many times during my New Jersey coverage, and during the trials and tribulations this past winter. They are also the RTO that could not lock in reasonable rates during auctions this past spring to cover precisely this scenario - when demand exceeded capacity, and the RTO had to go outside the grid to purchase excess power.
Heh.
Service Territory: All or parts of 13 states plus Washington, D.C. — Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, New Jersey, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia. It serves about 65–67 million people.

You think it's hot now?
...U.S. Secretary of Energy Chris Wright issued an Energy Emergency Alert, directing officials of the biggest electrical grid, PJM Interconnections in the Mid-Atlantic region, to take action to prevent blackouts and ensure essential operations like hospitals are fully functioning during the heat wave.
"Maintaining affordable, reliable, and secure power in the PJM service territory is non-negotiable," Wright said in a statement on Tuesday.
PJM supplies power to about 65 million customers in Washington, D.C., and in all or parts of 13 states, including Delaware, Michigan, Maryland, Kentucky, New Jersey, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia.
Wright's emergency declaration, which went into effect at 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday and will run through 11:59 p.m. on Friday, also directs PJM to conserve energy by curtailing power to data centers that have backup generators and other non-emergency facilities that use a lot of electricity.
Yeah. It's a bear right now, and do everything you can to get you and yours through it safely.
It's not like there's a damn thing to be done but keep truckin'.
However, don't let these Malthusian degenerates keep selling you a bill of Gaia goods as they work to continue destroying what's left of what once was a functioning, reliable electrical grid across the country.
Are you kidding me? @GovKathyHochul shuts down power plants, hands our energy grid over to foreign-owned solar companies, and now, in the middle of a heat wave, she's telling New Yorkers to turn off their AC? People are elderly. People have kids. People are sick. This isn't a… https://t.co/0UClmWAPUH
— Bruce Blakeman (@NassauExec) July 2, 2026
...This isn't a request; it's an admission that she broke the grid and she's making working families pay for it, literally and physically. I'm done watching New Yorkers get gaslit by a governor who caused this mess and then blames the weather. Enough.
Start firing these people. Start demanding change.
Lose your cool, and not because they told you to.
