There are a lot of ways to describe what this proposed Massachusetts bill is, but I don't think 'diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI)' is precisely what I would use, as some other major outlets are. I think it's much too sinister for a thoroughly discredited, despicable concept that's hopefully in its death throes while being relentlessly driven from business, academia, and government at all levels.
Most DEI proponents have either gone to ground or given it grudgingly, faced with the overwhelming backlash against the inherent unfairness of something built on a false pretext of that very thing - fairness. Not to mention, amazingly enough, the lucrative cottage industry of supposed DEI Experts™ who sprang up like poisonous mushrooms in order to be the administrative and enforcement arms of this new 'equity' order.
Everyone recognizes a fascist police state eventually, even if the brown shirts wear skirts, dreadlocks, and numerous piercings. Authoritarians with fake smiles using questionable degrees and un-American values to eliminate applicants based solely on skin hue or sexual orientation don't need little toothbrush mustaches under their noses and stiff right arms before someone understands the game at hand and that they are excluded from the get-go.
There are the holdouts, obviously. It's a philosophy that is held so dear in some progressive breasts that circumventing the onslaught of cleansing agents has taken much of their time and energy. They rename things. They shuffle decks.
They've been losing anyway.
As DEI tries desperately to dig a last clawed paw into the side of the trash can as it tips ever further upward into the dumpster of discarded refuse, Democrats have seen - and, most befuddling, allowed - the rise of what I believe to be a far more pernicious, radical, anti-American wing of their sad party.
It started with champagne socialist Bernie Sanders, who never met a real job he ever had or a million dollars he wouldn't keep once he got in public office. And whose own accumulated wealth has forced him to change his 'Fight the Oligarchy' rant over the years from the millionaires he hurled invective at until he joined their ranks, eventually to trillionaires - all shame-free, of course.
But that wasn't enough to sustain the momentum. Who wouldn't want to be a millionaire, or at least comfortable enough that they had no daily pressing worries about where the next meal came from or paying for their utilities? You know - like Bernie. Unlike the rapacious Sanders and his sketchy wife, most Americans don't want it taken from someone else's pocket - they only want a fair chance to earn such a life in their own right.
What Sanders' movement has morphed into, now loaded with college graduates, many of whom, much like those his wife left hanging when she bankrupted the university she was president of, are encumbered with substantial student debt for degrees of little if any return on investment, no appreciable skills, little motivation, and sincere cases of resentment. These delightful adolescents who, like Peter Pan's crew, have no capacity for maturity have become the Hamas wing of the Democratic Party. They have taken Bernie's 'gimme gimme gimme' rhetoric, mixed in all their entitled angst from years of everyone getting trophies and being told they were the smartest in the room, and, as most still seem to be on the parental dole, have decided to fix the blame on 'the system' and, by extension, the 'Jews.'
The leaders of the Democratic Party, which encouraged the rise of these nepo monster babies by patting them on the head as they acted out, now are standing around in frozen, helpless stupefication as their formerly feisty youth corps turns increasingly to nominating flat-out communist and Islamist (or both) candidates who espouse burning the whole constitutional foundation of the United States down.
It's not cute anymore, but the thumbsucking leaders of the Democratic Party are terrified to squeak a peep at the anti-American, anti-Semitic kiddies. Or when they do, it's an embarrassment of 'big tent' clown faces.
The national focus on the Mamdanis, Hongs, Al-Sayeds, etc., and the petrified reaction of the party's elder statesmen, in turn, have led to bold similar moves in state legislative houses, nowhere more so than the bills that are currently on their way to becoming law in Massachusetts.
These versions have both cleared their respective chamber committees, but let me just give you the title of the MA legislature is proposing:
An Act promoting the civil rights and inclusion of American Muslims in the commonwealth
For the record, there is no similar legislation promoting anything for Christians, Jews, Buddhists, etc., or even Pastafarians (Ramen).
The audacity of this is pretty mind-blowing, but no guts, no glory, right?
And it is Massachusetts.
While the Trump administration spends 2026 tearing down federal diversity, equity, and inclusion offices, the Massachusetts legislature is building a new one sized for exactly one religion. Senate Bill S.2134, “An Act promoting the civil rights and inclusion of American Muslims in the commonwealth,” would create a permanent 11-member commission whose duties include identifying and recommending Muslims for government appointments.
The bill has cleared its initial committees and now sits in the Senate Ways and Means Committee. I grew up in Boston, I still bleed Patriots red, and I have spent 30 years managing money as a fiduciary. Fiduciaries learn early that you do not build a system that quietly routes opportunity toward one class of people over another, however good the intentions behind it. Beacon Hill just proposed doing that with public office, and it picked religion as the sorting category.
The bill’s members would be appointed by the governor, the attorney general, the state secretary, and the legislature’s leadership. Its mandate covers public education and research on discrimination against Muslim residents, and nobody should object to that piece. But the bill also directs the commission to identify and recommend qualified Muslims for appointive positions at every level of government. That is not a study commission examining a social problem. That is a standing government office with a permanent assignment to move members of one faith into public jobs.
This bill, should it become law, will, by direction, sprinkle designated Muslims all through MA government, not because that individual was the right person for that position, but the correct religion.
...The Muslim commission would influence government recruiting and, “Identify and recommend qualified American Muslims for appointive positions at all levels of government, including boards and commissions, as the commission considers necessary and appropriate,” according to language in the bill.
And not only that, but that the person of the correct religion - the only religion with such privilege - was chosen NOT by the people who needed said position filled competently, but by a panel of other Muslims.

Chances are you will be on the state payroll in a week. Or a week after the state’s new bill creating a special commission aimed at prioritizing Muslims for state jobs becomes the law.
And you will receive benefits galore—good pay, health care, maternity leave, vacations, sick time and a pension.
Apparently, no Christians or Jews need apply. Nor should any Buddhists, Hindus, Jehovah Witnesses, atheists and agnostics think about applying either.

No other religious or ethnic group is mentioned in the legislation. Massachusetts, with a population of 7.5 million, has less than 150,000 Muslims, or less than two per cent of the total population.
Some 52% of the population identifies as Christian while 4% are Jewish.
The bill was proposed by progressive Democrat state Sen. James Eldridge of Acton and has the support of many left-wing Democrats at the State House.

Which is very strange, as I have noticed no one as obnoxious for getting their point across as certain of that faith. If they are referring to city councils and such things, let them get elected like anyone else.
I haven't seen where Muslims have been forbidden from speaking out at, say, council meetings or school boards as other citizens do to effect policy changes, unlike Christian parents, for instance, in places like Virginia.
I'm terribly sorry. You're no more special a 'community' than, say, my Polish neighbor or the sailor I argue with next door.
We're all Americans, or we're supposed to be.
I do believe that's where the failure to communicate is.
