This '90s Band Pays Price for Anti-Trump Stance

The Black Crowes weren't one-hit wonders.

The band delivered indelible hits like "Jealous Again," "She Talks to Angels" and "Remedy," making the '90s so much better in the process. The band has split and reformed over the years, a not unfamiliar path for older rockers. They're back on the road this month, eager to recapture their golden days and give fans a good time.

Who could blame them? Some '90s rockers savor fame in a more mature fashion now, appreciating how their fans never left their side over the years. It's called gratitude.

Yet The Black Crowes' lead singer showed little of it at a recent concert in Tampa, Florida. The band's stage featured an image of its iconic crow logo gussied up as Uncle Sam. Was that in honor of the nation's upcoming 250th birthday?

It's not clear, but the audience's reaction wasn't in doubt. Fans started chanting, "USA ... USA!' That kind of fan feedback is mother's milk to rock stars. Not this night, apparently.

TMZ reported that Robinson didn't take kindly to the chant.

"Thanks for the geography lesson...I don't know what you have to be so proud of."

Maybe they love their country, no matter what the current state of affairs might be? Or, they realize that July 4th is right around the corner, and they're ready to celebrate the nation's milestone birthday.

America has been pretty good to Robinson and co., no? The subsequent boos apparently rattled the band. So Robinson kept up the attack.

And for those of your f---ing booing us, some of us are not afraid. And we are most assuredly are not f---ing ignorant, so thank you!

The band didn't choose to lecture its fans, to be clear. This isn't Bruce Springsteen relying on a teleprompter to remember why he hates Orange Man Bad.

The story still went viral. Now, Robinson is doing some damage control courtesy of Ultimate Classic Rock. What's missing? An apology to his fans.

One of the [things] this country [was] founded on is being able to say whatever you want … and that's both sides of whatever you pick.

Yes. Of course. That isn't the issue. You directly mocked fans who paid good money to see you for simply supporting their country. And yours. Next, Robinson shows he learned a thing or two about misdirection during his heyday.

I think the whole thing was, of course, blown out of context so people can get clicks and people can stir up the animosity and philosophies or how you feel about life ... But be most assured, you know, whatever. It doesn't matter. In a week, something else will come up that [will stir up] the hornets' nest.

That's Deflection 101. We all know how social media works. And few people have given your band much thought in recent years. This changed that, but for the worse.

Next, he changes the subject.

No matter what I ever would say or do or feel about things, there's no way I would disrespect our veterans. I'm a person that I wish we had moved along as a species not to have violence be the way that we resolve conflicts.

That's a strawman attack.

I have to speak my mind. But I don't have an agenda or anything, you know what I mean? I'm just trying to make a soulful connection with people and we'll continue to endeavor to persevere, as they say in The Outlaw Josey Wales."

Huh?

Either defend your attack on your fans or apologize. This mealy-mouthed in-between choice makes matters worse.

"Action speaks louder than words," Robinson sings in "Hard to Handle." Maybe some free concert tickets for your loyal fans might be in order?
