MAiD: Made in Canada

Canadians have looked down on America as long as I can remember. It's almost as if they were American liberals, although perhaps not quite so bad.

Naah. It's about as bad, really.

In the case of American liberals, the contempt is born from a genuine belief that they are better than the rest of us—you know, the hoi polloi who make life in America work.

In Canada, the contempt is mostly feigned, hiding a deep-seated envy of the rich Uncle (Sam) to the south. Nobody enjoys being weaker and dependent on somebody else, so they concoct stories about how much better they are, or how the wealthier and more powerful must have done something bad to become successful.

One of the main claims Canadians make to justify their belief that Canadian society is better than America's (yes, the good ol' USA gets to call itself 'America' because we own the best part of the continent) is that health care is free up north.  It certainly isn't f the country is wealthier or more productive than we are, because Canada has the slowest growth rate in the G-7, and is now becoming poorer than the poorest US states.

And because Canada is becoming poorer, it is unable to provide good health care for many Canadians. That's not to say that Canada can't provide health care to healthy Canadians, and I assume that it is fairly inexpensive when you see a doctor for a minor complaint.

But don't get sick, because if you need some serious medical care, you are simply out of luck. The government will be happy to kill you, but if you are ill or disabled, they really want you to consider death.

I've written many times about MAiD in Canada (Medical Assistance in Dying) because what is happening there is truly horrifying. As with many things promoted by liberals, the grain of sand around which they build their poisonous pearl is something we all recognize and sympathize with at some level. We understand the horror of an extended and painful death, and the desire to seek comfort to alleviate the pain. That is why hospice care exists.

Of course, getting hospice care is now very difficult in Canada because death is a cheaper and easier alternative, so Canada has begun the practice of killing people and denying them hospice. Involuntarily.

Canadian healthcare has offered soldiers with PTSD death because counseling appointments take too long, and has asked a paralympian whether she wouldn't prefer to die than wait to get a lift installed to help her get to the second floor of her house.

Anything to save money. Health care is expensive, you know.

Need an MRI? Get ready to wait longer than it takes to get offed by the state.

Canadians have their priorities completely screwed up. They invest enormous resources in fighting "misgendering," putting people through witch trials because they use the wrong pronouns, and even in the midst of crises, their first thought is "How does this affect trans people?"

Canadian health care is so instructive because it reveals the priorities of the elite who run the country.

To the extent I have thought about Canada at all, I have always had pretty warm, fuzzy feelings about it. Not so much anymore. While Alberta may still be sane, Ontario and British Columbia are unrecognizable to me.
